Sharon & Jianxiong’s Wedding / Singapore Trip

Over the weekend, we were in Singapore to attend and witness the marriage of our dear friend Sharon to her hubby Jianxiong.  It was a memorable occasion – very special and also quite hi-tech with the City Harvest Church auditorium sporting a large LED screen!  A hearty congratulations to them as they begin their new life together! =)

It was also great to catch up with many friends (and their partners) who were previously studying/working in Melbourne.  Hope to see some of you at our wedding… keep in touch!

Here are some photos… including yummy food! 😉  (More at http://www.facebook.com/samleong)

Wedding Plans

For some, 09/09/09 is quite an auspicious date.  However for us, it means 101 days to go!  Make that exactly one-hour less, taking into account the start of daylight-saving time!

As some may know we’ve now got Joanie on board to help us with our wedding plans.  Those close to us know that we’re “organisational freaks” (well, that’s kinda more me than Steph haha) and would have most things already planned out.  Some would think we’ve got a whole Gantt chart prepared…

Joanie has been highly passionate about getting us even more excited for our big day as her fantastic skills and sharp eyes are able to point out things we’ve missed as well as suggesting how we can improve certain ideas.  With her experience in both corporate events and weddings, she is able to source things quickly and efficiently.

To Joanie – we can’t thank you enough!

To everyone else (more so to prospective couples), for more information about Joanie and wedding planning, please visit One Wedding Wish.  (You may want to visit her blog as well for some SGS Wedding teasers 😉 )

Diary of a Postie

Invitations.  There are LOTS!.  Status update:

  • Early invites to overseas family/friends (20 off): 100% complete, sent back in June 2009
  • General invites to everyone else (300+ off): in progress – 70%

We chose to hand-deliver most of them, as we won’t bump into everyone, and we could save on postage if many live nearby and in the same area.  Areas visited:

  • Vermont South / Mitcham / Blackburn / Donvale
  • Glen Waverley / Forest Hill / Wantirna / Wantirna South
  • Scoresby / Rowville
  • Hawthorn / Glen Iris / Malvern East
  • Mount Waverley / Ashwood

After approximately 500kms of travelling this weekend, here are the top 5 interesting (annoying?) things we encountered:

  • (5.) Numbers that don’t quite match the ones on the opposite side of the road… so the GPS led us to a place one block away!
  • (4.) Rowville is MASSIVE!!… so the checkpoints were about 10mins apart (shortest route!)
  • (3.) Locked mailboxes…  didn’t want to bend/fold the cards so we had to (inconspicuously) leave them under doormats.
  • (2.) Mailboxes within security area… do regular posties have a pass to enter?
  • (1.) WRONG ADDRESSES! …they apparently moved without letting us know! >.<!!!

Nevertheless, it was time spent together – what an adventure!  Our trip continues this week and probably next weekend too! ^_^

Sneak Peek!

Here’s a sneak peek on our wedding invite – after nights of multiple design revisions, glue sticking, double-taping, scalpel ticking, foot-pressing, hand-thumping, paper slicing, painful embossing 🙂

NOIM Form

“Notice of Intended Marriage” …this is a form prospective couples must successfully submit approximately 3 months prior to their wedding.  The funny thing was that we weren’t aware of it until now.  Oops!  I guess this explains how the celebrant is able to turn up with the “red book” (marriage register) with all the couple’s details filled in.

We hope no other about-to-be-wedded couples are in the same boat, but in case there are, here’s where you can download the form:

http://online.justice.vic.gov.au/CA256902000FE154/Lookup/BDMApplication_Forms/$file/Notice_Form.pdf

Don’t forget to have your original birth certificates and passports on-hand when you get the form witnessed!

Sam’s Birthday

Yesterday I celebrated my 26th.  My lovely dear just came back from an amazing weekend away with her network to hang out with me in the afternoon.  For the evening, she organised a small dinner party at Outback Jack’s in Knox as well as the great finisher: Hazlenut Cake!  YUM!!!!!  Thanks to those who came and celebrated with me.  (Thanks also for the few prezzies – hehe… they’re more for me to look after Steph yeah? 😉 )

At work today I received a page from reception asking me to come up.  “Did I do something wrong?” was my initial thoughts, since that was the level where the company’s Managing Director resides.  Upon arriving, I was greeted by a non-descript cardboard box.  I opened it and there was a litter of styrofoam and an instruction to lift the bouquet by the box.  What emerged was a giant display of flower-shaped cookies: a present from my Life Group in Perth!  Edman, Idris, Okky, Teresa, Vianny and Xin – thank you very much – you guys are truly a blessing to me!!

Wedding Bands

929639_40861409-01I was way more prepared in choosing Steph’s engagement ring, such that I didn’t really have an idea of what sort of ring I should have!  However, we have finally chosen our wedding rings after a 1 hour consultation with the jeweller.  Yes, we prefer white-gold over yellow-gold… and I must say Steph’s ring definitely looks stunning alongside her engagement one! Sorry – no photos… you’ll have to wait for our big day! 😉

Dinner at Takumi, Melbourne

Tonight was one of those rare occasions when Steph’s family would all be in the one place.  Steph was meant to fly back from Shanghai tomorrow, but managed to change her flight to this morning.  If the former happened, she would literally only have time to say a quick hi to her Dad – who is in Australia for only two weeks – before we were to fly to Sydney for the Hillsong Conference.  Seizing the opportunity, I took her family out for dinner at Takumi, a Japanese restaurant whose sashimi and smokeless BBQ were simply superb!  Highly recommended!
