19 Months!
Well, I am not in Melb – and I miss the monthly dates. However, I ordered some flowers to be delivered to her office.
I’ll let her tell her side of the story. =)

May I?
Because Uncle Anthony was coming to Melbourne for a short while, I decided to take the opportunity to set up a dinner with him and Auntie Clara. It was meant to be a secret one, and I was to take them to the SGS favourite eatery: Shira Nui. How Steph actually found out was when i was talking to her on the phone and Uncle and Auntie were on Skype. As I was chatting with Steph over the phone, she suddenly mentioned that her Dad on Skype wanted to talk to me. Then she held her phone to her home computer…
“Is the dinner still on?“, asked Uncle.
Hesitantly, I replied, “… … yes.”
Then, Steph asked: “What dinner? …. Oh!”
And so Steph joined us three for dinner. I grasped Steph’s hand rather tightly when I finally asked her parents after the main meal (and before dessert):
“It’s been 18 months and as you know it’ll be another 18 months when we plan to get married. So I would like to officially ask: ‘Do I have your permission to have Stephanie’s hand?”
Uncle: “Okay lah!”
Auntie: “Just make sure you look after her. In that case, I’ll also say, ‘Okay lah!’”
Hehe…. how funny! So yep, I guess from now on Steph will keep asking for the ring – and probably expecting it during one of my monthly R&R trips…
Hunter Gatherer (Part 3)
This morning Elisha and I went to Anton Jewellery and finally got the ring. It was BEAUTIFUL! I’m sure Steph would be blessed. The specs are as follows:
DIAMOND
- Cut: Very good (x3), Round Brilliant
- Clarity: VS2
- Colour: D
- Carat: 0.7 carat weight (GIA certified – diamonds 0.15 carats and less are not certified).
- Extras: Two 0.15 carat diamonds on each side so it represents “SGS” and total carat is 1 symbolising unity.
RING:
- Band: Platinum
- Setting: Platinum, with 4-prongs to hold each diamond
Ring: hunted and gathered.
18 Months!

Happy 18th! I miss you heaps and really counting down to the day you’re back in Melb for the weekend.
Distance makes heart fonder,
My mind go wonder,
But our relationship gets stronger,
As we strive for this little bit longer.
For God is our centre,
In Him we put our future,
We believe in the unseen,
As we journey in the pre-planned scene.
Love you ho dou!

Remembering Your Smile
Staying in Perth for a year seems like an exile,
But the loneliness is broken when I remember your smile.
But more importantly our God is by my side
Shaping me to be stronger – In Him I shall abide.Melbourne was my comfort zone – with family and friends,
Life’s seems to be quite easy, until God came and broke the trend.
In sending me away, He gently called my name:
“It’s something you can’t plan, it’s time to play My game.”His game is but an adventure, with ups and downs galore;
I’ll have learn to live by faith, with His Spirit in my core.
I know this season is a time be wide open
To what He wants to do in me, ‘cos anything can happen.I may not feel it yet, but in me He’s doing something great!
I’ll be a better man of God – something only He can create.
But I must be weary: as I advance in His Kingdom,
To hinder or even stop me, the Enemy is sure to come.I’ll strive to be persistent in God and His righteousness:
“To seek His Kingdom first” – it’s Him I want to bless.
As long as my heart is close to Jesus, for this I truly know:
No weapon formed against me can strike a deathly blow.I’ll always be asking Him, “What’s my purpose here in Perth?”
But I know His answer’s always the same: “Just hear, obey and serve.”
I can’t yet see the destination at the end of this exile,
But I’ll keep on running with my hand in God’s and remembering your smile.
Wah! …..almost forgotten how to write poems….. but I kept on typing wor!
Love you ho dou!

My Farewell
It was time for me to leave Melbourne next week. To celebrate, Steph organised a dinner at Sofia’s and invited a number of my friends. She even had a mini photo printer set up on a table nearby and printed out these photos. On the backs of the photos, they wrote their kind/funny/embarrassing/etc messages. Read More…
Hunter Gatherer (Part 2)
Elisha and I went to the Anton Jewellery branch in Glen Waverley and had a good look at the diamond they had reserved for me. VERY, VERY NICE!! Unfortunately, it was a VS2 (I had wanted a VVS2), however its cut was “Triple rated Very Good”, i.e. its proportions were pretty exact which lent the diamond an awesome fire and brilliance. According to my specifications they put the 0.7 in between two 0.15ct diamonds – it was perfect. It not only looked good, it also carried meaning. Steph wanted it so it would be symbolic of SGS. I took it further, the engineering way:
- The 0.7ct diamond represented God. In the Bible, we see the number 7 a lot.
- The two 0.15ct diamonds represented Steph and I.
- 0.15 + 0.7 + 0.15 = 1ct! And we know that the number 1 represents UNITY.
It was settled. I put in a deposit and will make the final payment two months later, when they said the ring would be ready.
Sevan Bahar was the one who served me and offered a very good price for the diamond. He is the current Managing Director and his father, Anton Bahar was the founder. I called Guillaume later, thanking him for his service. When I mentioned that Sevan was the one who sold me the diamond, he replied that I couldn’t get a better deal.
Ring: hunted.
Hunter Gatherer (Part 1)
A colleague, Benji, and I headed for Anton Jewellery on Collins St. I’ve looked at a few others before this one, but at a high recommendation from a friend who recently proposed to his girlfriend of 5 years, I decided to settle for this one. We were attended to by a Frenchman, Guillaume Cohen who was exceptionally helpful (more so than the others I’ve visited) in suggesting how to wisely pick a diamond (his sales pitch was good!) When I asked for certification, he said GIA. Done deal – I like this place. I showed Guillaume the blueprints for the diamond I had in mind:
- Cut: Round Brilliant, at least Very Good grade
- Clarity: VVS2
- Colour: D
- Carat: 0.7, plus two 0.15 on each side
Unfortunately he did not have one available, however later in the day he gave me a call and said there was one similar to what I wanted in the Glen Waverley branch. I’ll check it out tomorrow…
Irene and Ramesh’s Engagement
Another happy couple to tie the knot soon! We’ve known Irene and Ramesh for as long as we can remember through church (about 4 years+). The engagement party was held in a hall and Ramesh’s aunties cooked up a huge Indian feast!
Congratulations to the two of you! God bless!

O&J
We were killing time by having a stroll in the Glen Waverley Shopping Centre. Suddenly we had a brilliant idea – why don’t we have our ring sizes checked? So we walked into a retail jeweller’s store and played around with their standard ring set. I’m an “O” and hers was a “J”. OJ, or Orange Juice – easy to remember.
Little did she know I have been planning for almost two months on the design of the ring. She wanted the following:
- White Gold
- 3 Diamonds: 1 big, embraced by 2 smaller ones on opposite sides (representing SGS)
- Round Brilliant cut
I have been looking around at various jewellers, even considering getting one from overseas (apparently you can get nicer ones for the same price). Perhaps I’ll wait for a milestone anniversary – and get her an Eternity Ring then… I’m not sure how traditions go. Time to plan more….
